Kung Fu Goodness
I do not possess the vocabulary skills needed to impart to you the wholesome riot that Kung Fu Panda is. And I’m not even a Jack Black fan. I went into the theatre with monkey expecting a good little animated film worthy of at the very least “date movie” status. What I received was a film so funny and well told that I was laughing so hard I was in tears. It was so well done that children were not screaming and goofing off they were laughing right next to their surprised parents. I say surprised because I think that all adults cringe when the film is animated. The parent adult cringes because of the banal marketing filth that passes for animated films is so appalling that I can see the little child soul in them scream in pain. The child adults like me (and I suspect many of you) have yet to be given a animated film that is for us. When all you are presented is the wild spectrum edges of “Bleach the Movie” and “Heavy Metal” well we go hungry most of the time.
I was a ardent martial arts student so I of course watched a slew of kung fufilms, and loved the presentation of little kung fu details. the animation is freakin awesome with the battles very flowing and every bit as engaging as the wire fighting real life actors…
The voice acting is top notch, and well matched to the figures they give life to. Dustin Hoffman as a kung master teaching jack Black is so fun and likable that you can tell he had fun with the part. Of course Jack Black had fun with every line, it just seems to pop out at you that he ate every line and part with a huge smile. Surprise voicing by Angelina Jolie and Lucy Liu, Jackie Chan, are great too.
I especially liked that though this story has a moral fiber to it, they don’t bludgeon the viewer with it. It really means the difference between a nice animated film and a freakin sweet movie.
