Saint’s Row 2

So firstly, i must be very honest.  I never played the first Saint’s Row.  I know, I know but the thug life never appealed to me.  Recently though I was looking for my latest review and thought that in the interest of gamers it would not really serve to only review games I like.  So here goes…

The character creation is really good, alot of options for getting you virtual gangster on.  I have to say I liked this feature a ton.  Not to say anything negative about the GTA series, I could but I won’t, I never really liked the characters they came up with.  Not in design or anything, just there were parts I couldn’t identify with, and hence kept me from really caring about my character.

The gameplay is actually very fun, and I have to say that the feature that makes this game shine in comparison to the other sandbox games…. the tutorial was short easy and to the point.  It does what a tutorial is suposed to do.  Here’s the freaking controls… now go play.

And play you really get to do.  I liked the story arcs, even the over the tops parts.  In fact I think i liked it for the campy bits.  It definately did not try to take itself too seriously like it was a recruitment ad for gangbangers or anything, or some marketing blitz for 50 Cent.  It is a game of getting your gang to the top and having a little fun with septic trucks along the way. (Seriously fun.  try it.  Really.)

The only thing I can say bad about the game really is the AI cheese sometimes and the abillty to toss satchel charges at you from a zooming helicopter and nail you right in your teeth.  Bastards.
