Valentine’s is a Week Away - Plan for it WoW Style

So, you and your girlfriend are geeky gamers, and we’re all in a recession. Tons of blogs are writing up about “affordable” alternatives to the typical Valentine’s Day shenanigans, so I figured I’d chime in. Forget the fancy night out at the restaurant and the overpriced bouquet of roses.

Go log into Warcraft right now and get started on the following Valentine’s Options.

  1. First, you need to get your lady some jewelry. The Rock is amusing if you have the gold to spare, but necklaces and socketable gems are a more thoughtful gift.
  2. Clothing is always a great choice, because in WoW you don’t have to worry about giving her the wrong size! Useful items such as cloaks are always FTW, while Glacial Bags give her the room to store all the presents you got her!
  3. Gold burning a hole in your pocket? I’d recommend emptying your bank account for the Crimson Whelpling or White Kitten.
  4. You could give your favorite party member a bouquet of flowers from a vendor, like everyone else - or you could farm for rep rewards like Sanguine Hibiscus and give her something that gets her closer to Exalted.
  5. Finally… go quest with her! Nothing is more romantic than slaughtering the Scourge in the frozen wastes of Northrend with your loved one.

LOVE IS IN THE AIROn a more serious note, I heartily recommend all the things above, but for IRL, it’s the little things that count. Make hot chocolate for while  you’re questing or raiding with each other. Pick a cooking recipe from the game and guess together about how you’d make it, then go ahead and give it a try. If you’re a tailor whip them up something silly, like the Winter Clothes or Lovely Blue dress. Engineers, make them some dynamite and send it in the mail with a cute haiku about how dynamite she is. And, of course, all the “she’s” in my post could be converted to “he’s”, coz guys love in-game mail and sweet new gear just as much as the ladies do.
